Turkish FinTech Firms and Participation Banks Met with International Investors

In the online event organized by the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Finance Office in collaboration with Qatar Financial Centre on 23-24 February 2022, 20 Turkish fintech firms and 3 participation banks met with Qatari investors.

The webinar entitled “Fintech and Digital Participation Banking: Turkish Solutions and Opportunities in Qatar” organized by Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Finance Office in collaboration with Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) was held on 23-24 February 2022. More than 300 participants showed interest in the event, which was conducted online.

Giving the keynote speech on the first day of the event, Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Finance Office Vice President Necip Fazıl Kaymak underlined Turkish fintech firms’ creative and innovative solutions as well as cooperation opportunities between Qatar and Türkiye, and he emphasized that annual fintech investment of Türkiye increased from 12 million dollars in 2016 to 64 million dollars in 2021.

The first day of the event, continued with the following speeches of QFC Chief of Financial Sector Office Henk Hoogendoorn, Hasan Askari on behalf of Qatar FinTech Hub and Melih Turan, Project Manager responsible for fintechs at Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Finance Office, ended with 20 Turkish fintech firms’ presentations in 4 different parallel sessions named “Financing, Crowdfunding & Islamic Fintech”, “Payment & E-commerce”, “Open Banking & Regtech” and “Investment & Insurtech”.

The second day of the event started with the keynote speech of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Finance Office Vice President Murat Ali Çengelci. In his speech, Çengelci pointed out that Türkiye’s aim is to increase the share of participation banking from 7,2% (2020) to 15% by 2025 and Turkish participation banks have taken an active role in embracing new developments and technologies during the recent periods by adopting digitalization. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of business partnerships by stating that Türkiye has an important potential in both participation finance and fintech. 

The event continued with the presentations of QFC Chief of Financial Sector Office Henk Hoogendoorn, Qatar Development Bank official Ahmed Ebaidullah, Participation Banks Association of Türkiye official Sevcan Ekmen, and ended with the presentations of 3 Turkish participation banks. 
Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Finance Office will continue its webinar series in different countries, which was initiated in order to promote the capabilities of Türkiye’s financial sector abroad.
