A Framework Protocol on Sustainability Was Signed Between Finance Office and Ibn Haldun University
As Finance Office of Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, we continue to cooperate with national and international institutions in order to make our country a regional and international financial center within the scope of İstanbul Financial Center, to increase the variety of financial products, especially participation finance instruments, and to develop sustainability practices.
In this direction, a framework protocol was signed between Finance Office and Ibn Haldun University to determine the structure, working principles and rights and obligations of the parties regarding the "İstanbul Sustainable Development and Islamic Finance Center of Excellence" to be established under the responsibility of the university.
The signing ceremony was held in İstanbul on 16 April 2023 with the presence of Finance Office President Prof. Göksel Aşan and Ibn Haldun University Rector Prof. Atilla Arıkan. The formation to be established under the responsibility of the university, will be implemented with the mission of conducting research in the field of "participation-based sustainable finance", which is defined as activities within the scope of participation finance in ensuring sustainable development, especially green finance, publishing these research outputs and developing products. The Center, which plans to open programs at the graduate level in order to train the human resources needed at the national and international level, will determine the content and scope of these programs; will organize national and international seminars, meetings, workshops, conferences and trainings; will prepare projects on a national and international scale, and will cooperate and work together to respond to project calls in these areas.
“It will be one of the few examples in the world”
Emphasizing that the “Sustainable Development and Islamic Finance Center of Excellence” to be established within the scope of the protocol will be one of the few examples in the world in terms of its structure, Finance Office President Prof. Göksel Aşan stated that he expects that the Center will make significant contributions to Türkiye, which aims to become a global center in the field of participation finance, with the İstanbul Financial Center Project. President Prof. Aşan also stated that they aim to increase the contribution of participation finance in the field of sustainability with the Center to be established within the scope of the protocol signed with the university.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ibn Haldun University Rector Prof. Atilla Arkan reminded the economic problems in the world. He emphasized that the İstanbul Sustainable Development and Islamic Finance Center of Excellence will play an significant role in solving these problems.
Mr. Arkan said, “Preparing both our university, our students, our institutions, our state and our nation for the future is a much more important issue than yesterday. As Ibn Haldun University, we really care about this. The protocol we signed is both linked to the future and linked to the sustainability. That's why it is important. The world we live in has also economic problems. This is a seed and we hope that we will eat its fruits together in the future”.
